We want all attendees to have an enjoyable experience at PyCon Africa. All attendees - delegates, speakers, volunteers, sponsors, exhibitors and organisers - are expected to abide by this Code of Conduct. If necessary, the organisers will act to enforce it. All attendees are expected to show respect and courtesy to others throughout the conference and at all conference events. This includes social and fringe events, whether officially sponsored by PyCon Africa or not.
We as members, contributors, and leaders pledge to make participation in our community a harassment-free experience for everyone, regardless of age, body size, visible or invisible disability, ethnicity, sex characteristics, gender identity and expression, level of experience, education, socio-economic status, nationality, personal appearance, race, religion, or sexual identity and orientation.
We pledge to act and interact in ways that contribute to an open, welcoming, diverse, inclusive, and healthy community. We are committed to providing a friendly, safe, and welcoming environment for all, regardless of background or experience level.
We believe that our strength lies in our diversity. By working together, we can create an environment where everyone feels valued and respected, and where all participants can contribute their best work.
Demonstrating empathy and kindness toward other people. Being respectful of differing opinions, viewpoints, and experiences. Giving and gracefully accepting constructive feedback.
Accepting responsibility and apologizing to those affected by our mistakes, and learning from the experience. Focusing on what is best not just for us as individuals, but for the overall community.
Using welcoming and inclusive language. Being respectful of differing viewpoints and experiences. Gracefully accepting constructive criticism. Showing empathy towards other community members.
The use of sexualized language or imagery, and unwelcome sexual attention or advances. This includes inappropriate physical contact and unwelcome sexual attention.
Trolling, insulting or derogatory comments, and personal or political attacks. Deliberately disrupting talks, workshops, or other events. Sustained disruption of discussions or events.
Publishing others' private information, such as a physical or email address, without their explicit permission. Other conduct which could reasonably be considered inappropriate in a professional setting.
Violent threats or language directed against another person. Discriminatory jokes and language. Written or verbal comments that have the effect of intimidating, harassing, or discriminating against others.
Participants asked to stop any harassing behavior are expected to comply immediately. If a participant engages in harassing behavior, the conference organizers may take any action they deem appropriate.
This includes warning the offender, expulsion from the conference with no refund, or banning the offender from future events. Conference staff will be happy to help participants contact venue security or local law enforcement.
Conference staff can also provide escorts or otherwise assist those experiencing harassment to feel safe for the duration of the conference. We value your attendance and want everyone to feel welcome and safe.
If you experience or witness unacceptable behavior, please find a conference organizer or staff member immediately. Conference staff can be identified by their staff badges and t-shirts.
You can also report incidents via email. All reports will be handled with discretion and confidentiality. We take all reports seriously and will respond appropriately.
Email usWe understand that not everyone feels comfortable making a public report. Anonymous reports can be submitted and will be investigated to the extent that information allows.
All conference organizers, staff, and volunteers are responsible for enforcing this code of conduct. They are expected to take appropriate action in response to any violations.
This code of conduct applies to all conference venues, including the main conference hall, workshop rooms, social events, and any associated satellite events.
This code of conduct also applies to online spaces associated with the conference, including official social media channels, chat platforms, and the conference website.
The code of conduct applies before, during, and after the conference. This includes pre-conference networking events, after-parties, and any informal gatherings associated with the conference.
This Code of Conduct is adapted from the Contributor Covenant, version 2.1, available at contributor-covenant.org. It has been modified for use by PyCon Tanzania and the Python Tanzania community.
